Earthwool insulation is the newly introduced mineral wool brand. From its reviews, the
new material contains some improvements over the older mineral wool. The
differences are in its feel, the easy handling and the minimal environment
impact.
From
the company that made its bio-binder technology (ECOSE) famous, earthwool is
the new product that uses the same technology. In essence, the company has
unified its glass and rock mineral wool range under the same name of the new
product line.
Materials
Earthwool
mineral wool is manufactured using recycled glass bottles, and is
compression-packed to reduce transport emissions. It is also formaldehyde-free.
The base is a material that can be rapidly renewed in contrast to others that
use petrol-based chemicals.
The
finished material is 70% less energy intensive. Moreover, it has no artificial
colors or being bleached. In practical terms, it is comparable to the older
glasswool insulation. With the use of the materials, the design is primarily
geared for thermal as well as acoustical insulation.
The
uses include heating and air conditioning ducts, metal walls, masonry walls,
power and process equipments, and stack installations. This last one includes boilers, as well as
walls, roofs, and wall panel systems, cavity walls and curtain web assemblies.
Features
Earthwool,
the product, has very excellent thermal efficiency that can lower overall
operating energy costs. It is also lightweight, easy to handle and to
fabricate. Overall, the installation is fast and easy.
Its
emission is low. This makes it ideal for indoor air considerations. On the
acoustics end, the excellent properties of the material effectively reduce
noise. Its facings work as a vapor retardant although it helps in also coming
out with a neatly finished appearance.
Environmental points
The production of the material is carbon
negative, as described by Knauf its manufacturer. The product for thermal
insulation recovers the energy that it took to produce them in just a few days
(dependent on the application).
This mineral wool insulation contains sand;
one of the world’s most abundant resources with a minimum 50% recycled content.
Accordingly, it is rated to have a global warming potential at around 4%
reduction of its carbon footprint.
The product also has no phenol, acrylics or
artificial colors. It is certified by UL environment for indoor air quality for
low-emitting products.
Advantages
Earthwool has the main advantage of being
thermally efficient while being cost-effective at the same time. It is not
combustible and it can reduce unwanted noise from outside sources. It can also
limit sound transmission within the house, from room to room.
The use are in wall and ceiling batts in a
wide range of sized and R-values. Mostly, the main advantage is its being
thermally efficient and cost-effective in saving energy and providing increased
comforts. It is not combustible and can reduce unwanted noise from the
outside.
Some pointers
Earthwool
would need to have the insulation points firmly butted, secured with adhesives,
mechanical fasteners or can be banded.
If there is a need for vapor retarders, the
penetration and facing damage can be repaired with tapes or mastic. Earthwool insulation brings new standards to
thermal and acoustic insulation.
